Alleged assault at Dublin boarding school investigated
Coleman Legal LLP
Dec 1, 2016

An investigation is under way into an alleged assault that took place in the Lucan area last Thursday 24th November. This has been confirmed by Gardai.

It has been reported that eight pupils have been suspended following an alleged incident at King’s Hospital School in Palmerstown. This follows a claim that a 13 year old boy was sexually assaulted. The alleged victim will remain on in school, with the agreement of his parents.

The boarding and co-education secondary school has confirmed that the alleged incident is also being investigated by Tusla, but is not making any further comment at this time.

Tusla has said that it does not comment on individual cases. However it did comment on the process involved when it receives a child protection concern. This involves screening and assessing the concern in line with Children First – the national guidance for the protection and welfare of children.

Under child protection rules, if someone has knowledge of possible child abuse or neglect, they are expected to lodge reports without delay to the relevant authorities. If a child remains an immediate risk of danger, it is to be reported to the Gardai straight away.
