RTÉ Investigates to spotlight Christian Brothers abuse and asset handling

Philip Treacy of Coleman Legal features on RTÉ Investigates to highlight legal challenges survivors face in Christian Brothers abuse cases.

RTÉ Investigates: Legal spotlight on Christian Brothers abuse and assets

Coleman Legal’s senior Solicitor, Philip Treacy, will appear on the highly anticipated RTÉ Investigates programme tonight Thursday, 1 May, at 9.35 pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player, entitled RTÉ Investigates “Christian Brothers: The Assets, The Abusers,”.

The upcoming broadcast will examine how the Christian Brothers congregation—long accused of systemic abuse—has managed its considerable wealth over the decades while many survivors continue to wait for justice and recognition.

Our team at Coleman Legal represents survivors in the ongoing legal actions related to historic abuse carried out in Christian Brother-run institutions across Ireland. Philip Treacy has been at the forefront of these efforts, helping victims seek justice, accountability, and compensation for the harm they endured.

This investigation is expected to bring renewed public attention to the long-standing issues of abuse, silence, and institutional responsibility. It may also resonate with individuals who have yet to come forward.

The programme will also address the issue of Unincoporated Bodies and how the Christian Brothers do not nominate any of their members to act as nominee for the Congregation in Civil legal actions.

This choice made by the Christian Brothers to not nominate a nominee for cases then leaves victims of sexual abuse having to endure very long-drawn-out and costly litigation for years. If you or someone you know has been affected by abuse in a school or residential institution, please know that you are not alone. We are here to listen and to help you take the next step.
