35-year-old Shane Flynn, the owner of NGS Gyn and Rehabilitation Clinic (now known as Recode), was convicted of sexual assault at Mullingar Circuit Court on the 23rd of October, 2024. The Court had previously heard evidence from the victim of the assault that she had sought massage therapy for severe back pain and scoliosis.
Mr Flynn asked the victim to remove her shorts and bra before commencing the massage and walked in while she was still undressing. The victim described how, during the massage, Mr Flynn touched her breasts, public area, vagina and buttocks. He also made several inappropriate sexualized comments to her. She told me that the massage was “absolutely not” similar to any of the treatments she had experienced previously.
Mr Flynn did not give evidence at the trial. However, in the description he gave to Gardai, he claimed that the victim had gotten the “wrong idea” during the massage and that he had to turn her down when she “crossed the line”. The victim described the ongoing effects of the assault on her still.
While investigating the sexual assault on the young woman, Gardai found 18 hours of footage on Mr Flynn’s laptop where he had filmed messages on 35 other women. The footage showed him massaging the women’s breasts and also making suggestive remarks.
