About

Philip Treacy is a qualified solicitor with over 20 years of legal experience. In April 2019, Philip joined Coleman Legal LLP, where he is a member of the highly experienced Litigation team, with a combined team experience of well over 100 years.

Experience

Philip Treacy has successfully represented and settled historical sexual abuse cases for many clients, as well as medical negligence, dental negligence, workplace injury cases, and other catastrophic injury cases.

He has also successfully made an application to the State Ex-Gratia scheme for four victims of day school abuse. Philip continues to work on medical negligence claims, dental negligence claims, workplace physical injury claims, workplace sexual assault claims, and historical childhood sexual abuse claims.

Education

In addition to his legal professional qualifications, Philip also has a 2.1 Honours Degree in Accounting and Human Resource Management and a wide range of business and commercial experience. Philip Treacy has also worked as a volunteer for FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centre) for 8 years, offering legal advice to many people on various complex legal matters.

Recent Work

Portiuncula Hospital faces intensified scrutiny as a tenth external review into its maternity services begins, following a recent baby's death.

The Scoping Inquiry report revealed 590 allegations of sexual abuse in special schools, disproportionately affecting vulnerable children. The abuse spanned 17 special schools, with over 190 abusers implicated. Institutions like Lota and Holy Family School were key sites of abuse. Survivors of abuse in special schools are encouraged to seek confidential support.

The Scoping Inquiry has revealed close to 2,400 allegations of historical sexual abuse in religious-run schools across Ireland. The report, detailing the abuse inflicted on thousands of children, calls for a full Commission of Investigation and urges the government to consider financial redress for survivors.

Coleman Legal LLP is representing clients, including a 17-year-old, against Ryanair after a 2018 emergency descent caused emotional distress and physical symptoms, resulting in a €10,000 settlement offer under the Montreal Convention.
