National campaign to highlight available supports

A new sexual violence awareness campaign has been launched in Ireland to provide clear information for victims and survivors of sexual violence.

The initiative, called Always Here, is run by Cuan, the Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (DSGBV) Agency. It aims to raise awareness of the support available through community and voluntary organisations, State agencies, and Sexual Assault Treatment Units (SATUs).

Information available online

As part of the campaign, a dedicated website — alwayshere.ie provides details of national helplines for both men and women affected by domestic and sexual violence. It also includes information for young people, older individuals, and people with disabilities. Practical resources are available on safety planning and guidance on what to expect during a criminal trial.

Government support and launch

The campaign is being launched by the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, who emphasised the importance of survivors knowing that they are not alone and that help is available.

This follows Cuan’s first national awareness campaign earlier this year and represents the next stage in raising awareness at a national level.

Research on prevalence and barriers

The launch coincides with the publication of an Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) review on sexual violence in Ireland.

Lead author Dr Elish Kelly noted that comparisons over time can be challenging due to varying definitions and measurement methods. She also highlighted that attitudes toward gender roles and victim-blaming continue to be barriers to policy development and prevention efforts, both in Ireland and across the European Union.
