Children’s Health Ireland Report on spinal surgeries at Temple Street Hospital
On September 18, 2023, Children’s Health Ireland published its report on spinal surgeries among children with spina bifida carried out at Temple Street Hospital from 2018 to 2022.
This followed an internal review carried out by CHI and an external review carried out by experts from Boston Children’s Hospital.
The report was commissioned due to
- In July and September 2022, two serious post-operative surgical incidents were reported at CHI Temple Street. These incidents remain under investigation.
- In September 2022, members of the Spina Bifida Multi-Disciplinary Team also raised concerns about spinal surgery outcomes to their Clinical Director and the CHI Chief Medical Officer.
