Dianne Willmore, who passed from mesothelioma in 2009, won a landmark £240,000 case, holding Knowsley Borough Council liable for her asbestos exposure during school. Her case prompted legal and financial ramifications for local authorities nationwide, leading to increased awareness and changes in asbestos-related negligence proceedings.
Review of subgaleal haemorrhage cases at University Hospital Galway commences
The Irish Independent reported today on the commencement of a review of maternity deliveries at University Hospital Galway.
The review is being carried out at the request of the Saolta Women and Children’s Managed Academic Network. The review will be done by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals external to the Saolta group.
The review will focus on the labour and delivery of babies that had a subgaleal haemorrhage, also known as a subgaleal haematoma, diagnosed after delivery.
A subgaleal haematoma is a bleed under the skin of the head outside of the skull. It can occur during a difficult delivery, particularly where a vacuum extractor is required.
Coleman Legal LLP has been contacted by several concerned families affected by the diagnosis of a subgaleal haemorrhage following the delivery of their babies. We continue working with and supporting families on their journey to seek answers.
