On the 18th of September 2023, Children’s Health Ireland publish its report on spinal surgeries among children with Spina Bifida carried out at Temple Street Hospital from 2018 to 2022.

This followed both an internal review carried out by CHI, and also an external review carried out by experts from Boston Children’s Hospital.

The report was commissioned due to

1. In July and September 2022, two serious post-operative surgical incidents were reported at CHI Temple Street. This incidents remain under investigation.
2. In September 2022, concerns about spinal surgery outcomes were also raised by members of the Spina Bifida Multi-Disciplinary Team to their Clinical Director and to the CHI Chief Medical Officer.
