Dave Coleman | Partner

Dave Coleman specialises in multi party actions, litigation and public and administrative law.

He has over 20 years’ experience in multi-party litigation, and has overseen a significant number of important and topical multi-party actions including Hepatitis C cases, institutional sexual abuse cases, property defect cases and more recently financial services mis-selling cases.

Dave and his team have advised groups on a national basis on the following matters: DePuy Hip Replacement, a substantial group of bondholders in an action against ACC Bank, a large number of claimants living in a housing estate affected by Pyrite, a group of individuals in the Michael Shine sexual abuse case and various other multi-party actions.

Dave believes in delivering a tailor-made legal service to clients and regularly meets with and advises diverse groups of clients in issues of concern to them.

Dave is a graduate of UCD and was admitted as a solicitor in 1986. He is also admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Rose Sweeney| Personal Injury
Rose has over 30 years experience in dealing with personal injuries claims and has been working alongside Dave Coleman for over 27 years. Rose specialises in Personal Injury law and regularly represents clients who have suffered injuries as a result of road traffic accidents, accidents in the workplace, slips and trips, as well as industrial and occupational disease. Rose is focused on obtaining the right result for her clients, both in terms of compensation and rehabilitation. Rose also has experience in dealing with cases that proceed to complex litigation. Rose’s Diploma in Counselling Skills from NUI Maynooth provides her with practical tools to support her clients throughout this process.

Norman Spicer | Solicitor

Norman joined the team at Coleman Legal as a solicitor in December 2017 and works in the litigation department. His focus is on personal injury and multi-party actions.

Norman is also a duly licensed New York Attorney and previously worked as a litigation lawyer in New York from 2013 until 2016.

While in New York, Norman worked primarily in the areas of personal injuries and contract law which included actions arising from motor vehicle accidents, trips and falls, construction accidents and products liability. He gained extensive experience in motion drafting and arguing, arbitration, conducting examinations under oath/depositions and in jury selection and trials.

Norman also previously worked as a professional soldier with the Irish Defence Forces where he served in a number of different appointments including Artillery and Signals spanning 12 years. Norman also served overseas with recce company in the 99th Infantry Battalion, which deployed to TChad and the Central African Republic in 2009.

He is currently the lead solicitor working on a complex multi-party action against the state over the use of Lariam on members of the Defence Forces travelling overseas. Norman has first-hand knowledge and experience of the effects of this drug, having taken it himself during his deployment.

Norman holds an Honours Degree in Irish law from Dublin Business School which he attained in 2012, he also holds a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the Law Society of Ireland (2013) and recently completed a Master’s Degree in International Commercial Law in UCD (2017).

Johanna Ryan | Trainee Solicitor

Johanna graduated from UCD in 2014 with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Social Policy. She then graduated from DIT in 2015 with an Honors Post Graduate Diploma in Law, successfully completing her Fe1 examinations in 2016, and entering the Law Society Professional Practice Course that same year to commence her professional training and exams.

Johanna also has experience in counseling having undergone a training course with an Irish-based organization that provides counseling services online and over the phone. She volunteered there on a part-time basis before pursuing a legal career in 2014.

Johanna joined Coleman Legal Partners in October 2015 and has been working in varying areas of personal injury law mainly comprising of public liability, road traffic accidents, historical abuse claims, medical negligence, as well as product liability. She is currently involved in resolving a number of claims through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Process

Kathrin Coleman | Partner

Kathrin is a founding Partner of Coleman Legal Partners, and works in the areas of Sexual Assault, Professional Negligence, Medical Negligence, Personal Injury Law, Defamation and Employment Law.She has considerable experience in acting for many individuals who have been sexually abused or who have suffered loss as a consequence of the advice or actions of professionals.

She has built up a wealth of experience in most areas of High Court Litigation and has successfully litigated against large organisations including the state and major religious institutions. She has also successfully represented clients in some of the biggest jury awards in Irish legal history.

Kathrin is currently involved in a major multi-party action in relation to a product liability claim regarding the defective De Puy Hip implant which is manufactured by Johnson & Johnson.

Kathrin is also advising a large group of families of their rights regarding the standard of care which is required in pre-school childcare services such as crèches, Montessori groups and Playschool facilities.

Kathrin began her career with Lavelle Coleman in 1999, and graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2003 with an Honours Masters Degree in English Literature and French with a further honours post-graduate business qualification from the Smurfit Business School in 2004.

As a dual citizen of Ireland and Germany, Kathrin is also a bi-lingual German speaker with a qualification in Legal German. She is also fluent in French.

Kathrin is a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers’ Association.

Oisín McAsey | Solicitor

Oisín joined the team at Coleman Legal partners in September 2015 having worked extensively in various areas of litigation. Before coming to Coleman Legal Partners, he garnered extensive experience in various areas of High Court litigation including commercial, chancery and personal injuries. In recent years, he secured an injunction against a large retail bank to stop them closing his client’s accounts and in addition he secured a favourable settlement against another bank for an unlawful eviction of a tenant from a repossessed property.

Oisín has also represented various clients in planning prosecutions, employment law and family law. He has also prosecuted on behalf of two local authorities. In addition, he has worked extensively in the areas of defamation and judicial review. He has experience as an advocate in all Courts and has worked representing a host of clients in the Flood/Mahon Tribunal including a successful Supreme Court appeal.

He now represents various clients in multiparty actions, including material damage due to pyrite and financial mis-selling matters against various retail banks. He has experience in alternative dispute resolution to include Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.

Oisín has an LL.B in Laws and was entered on the Roll of Solicitors in 2007 and is a graduate of the University of London.

Marguerite Baily | Solicitor

Marguerite is a solicitor on Coleman Legal Partners’ Litigation team and has been working with members of that team since 2010 as part of her employment with Lavelle Coleman. Prior to joining Lavelle Coleman she practised as a barrister on the Southwestern and Dublin Circuits.

She primarily advises individuals in relation to medical negligence and personal injury claims with particular expertise in Multi-Party Action Litigation where she has experience acting for large groups of individual Plaintiffs.

Her experience includes acting for over 400 investors in a multi-party action against ACC Bank and various intermediaries arising out of the marketing and sale of the geared Solid World Bond financial products. Marguerite has also represented Payment Protection Insurance policyholders in their claims against various lending institutions including GE Money.

Marguerite has broad litigation and legal research experience and has appeared as an advocate in the District, Circuit and High Courts.

Marguerite is a graduate of UCD with an honours degree in Law. After training at the Honourable Society of Kings Inns, she was called to the Bar of Ireland in 2006. She was admitted to the roll of Solicitors in 2011.

Ciara Redmond | Trainee Solicitor

Ciara Redmond is our newest trainee to join our firm. Ciara graduated in 2013 with a Bachelors Honours degree in Law. She started her legal career in a litigation and human rights firm in the city centre the same year. There, Ciara worked on cases involving general litigation, family law, human rights and immigration law. Ciara successfully completed the FE1 examinations in 2016 and will be attending Blackhall in 2017 to commence her final professional training and exams.

Ciara is interested in the many different areas in law and this is shown by her further studies in Social Welfare Law, Criminology and completing an internship with the Irish Penal Reform Trust. She also volunteers with FLAC in her spare time.

Ciara currently works in our commercial department where she works on cases involving commercial litigation, multi-party actions, general litigation, personal injuries and medical negligence.

Ian O’Reilly | Senior Associate

Ian qualified as a solicitor in 1997 having previously obtained an honours degree in law (LL.B) from Trinity College Dublin. He commenced his career working primarily in the areas of family law and plaintiff personal injury litigation. He joined the firm of Giles J Kennedy & Co. in 2003 and in that time built up an extensive portfolio in general commercial litigation and regulatory matters. In that time he has represented clients in indemnity litigation with insurers in the High Court and at arbitration and has successfully litigated against a major insurer to obtain indemnity for his client for an overall exposure of in excess of €400,000. Ian has litigated a specific performance action involving multiple contracts for sale of a property which achieved a settlement for his client of €1.125 million plus High Court costs.

Ian has also acted for clients in building contract disputes and has successfully sued architects and building contractors in the High Court. He has also acted for clients in professional negligence actions against professionals in the High Court. In addition he has acted for a client in a property arbitration against a local authority involving compulsory purchase of lands which resulted in a settlement at arbitration in excess of €1.1 million plus costs.

Ian has also advised and represented professionals in dealings with their respective regulatory and disciplinary regimes. He has appeared on numerous occasions before regulatory committees of the Law Society and has a broad knowledge of the solicitors accounts regulations. He has also appeared before the High Court and the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal on behalf of clients.

Ian has acted for insurers in respect of employers and public liability insurance and has defended personal injuries actions in the Circuit Court and High Court. He has advised insurers on indemnity, liability, reserves and quantum, and strategies on the conduct of litigation.

Keith Rolls | Solicitor

Keith graduated from UCC in 2006 with an honours BCOMM degree, where he majored in Law and Management.

Keith manages a varied caseload ranging from personal injury to historical sexual abuse cases against religious institutions. Keith also specialises in medical negligence, where he has acted for client’s and families that have experienced terrible hardships in both fatal injuries claims and for patients that have suffered terrible injuries and have fortunately survived same. Keith also runs the dental negligence files in the office and has had great success in receiving compensation for negligent work on dental patents.

Keith is also well versed in Employment Law and has several WRC and Circuit Court employment claims on his desk at present. He also works on all the Asbestos queries in the office and has had great success in fatal injury claims for surviving family members and ongoing claims where former employees have been exposed to asbestos fibres and are seeking compensation as a result of the harrowing diagnosis made to them by respiratory consultants.

Keith is also in the process of completing a Diploma in Sports Law with the Law Society of Ireland, and can offer a wide range on advice on this area.

Daniel O’Connell | Solicitor

Daniel works on a varied litigation case load at CLP that covers areas from Medical Negligence, Personal Injury, Institutional Abuse, Professional Negligence to Defective Products and Commercial litigation. He has extensive experience with ‘multi-party’ type actions whilst at CLP including commercial actions before the Commercial Court and Civil litigation in the High Court for over 20 children and their parents against Links Creches following an expose on RTE’s Prime Time in 2014.

Daniel is responsible for the running of CLP’s suite of defective hip implant cases against the Johnson & Johnson division company, DePuy Orthopaedics and has gained an in depth understanding of defective hip implants and the running technical medical cases. He is also handling several TVT/Mesh cases.

Daniel holds an honours Degree in Law (GCD), a Diploma in Marketing and P.R (DBS) as well as a Diploma in Journalism (DIT).
